ANAHEIM, CA – It wasn’t the most dazzling of championship affairs – but, in the end, CIF Southern Section championship hardware still left the building with the Pasadena High Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs led Arroyo Grande 9-2 after one quarter, 20-10 at intermission and 27-23 after three quarters before “erupting” for 23 points in the final stanza to come away with a 50-35 victory during the IIIAAA title game in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

The Bulldogs shot only 36 percent from the field but had just 12 turnovers to Arroyo Grande’s 21.

ANAHEIM, CA – The Mission Hills Alemany Warriors were the best team in the best league (Mission) this season.

So it wasn’t much of a surprise when the Tray Meeks-coached club cruised to a 72-60 victory over Oak Park Saturday afternoon in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena for the CIF Southern Section IIIA title.

The Warriors (28-4) – who could win the State Division III title – got marvelous performances from two of the finest seniors in Southern California, University of Nevada-bound wing Marqueze Coleman (23 points, eight rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots) and point guard Max Guercy (21 points, five assists and three steals).

ANAHEIM, CA – Leading by seven points, the Simi Valley Royal Highlanders were just a couple of minutes away from claiming a CIF Southern Section IIAA title in a clash with Inglewood Saturday morning in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

But the junior-laden Sentinels, taken the lead for good on a penetration pass from Randy Onwuasor pass to Charles Lockwood, the 6-foot-10 Lockwood converting for layup, and a free throw, with 52 seconds to go.

Inglewood hung on for a 60-57 victory when the Highlanders’ J.R.

ANAHEIM, CA – The first day of CIF Southern Section boy’s hoops final got underway on Thursday in the Anaheim Convention Center Arena.

And the top seeds in each game prevailed, two of those in fairly lopsided fashion . . .

IV-A

  L.A. Pacific Hills 65, Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart 42: Too deep, too quick, too tenacious . . . take your pick but Pacific Hills was just “too much” for the Cardinals.

And there was certainly too much defense for the Cardinals – and their standout junior, Jose Estrada – to overcome.

  Rosters for the second prep All-American Championship, to be held on April 1 in New Orleans during Final Four Weekend, were announced by the Princeton-based Gazelle Group today.

Two games, in West vs. East and North vs. South format, will be played at the Lakefront Arena, with the first game tipping off at 3 p.m. ET.
