LAGUNA NIGUEL, Ca. – High school basketball’s 2014-15 season – Southern California-style – tips off Monday afternoon at Redondo Union with the 63^rd Dijon Thompson Pacific Shores Tournament.

The 16-team field includes seven squads selected in BurlisonOnBasketball’s preseason SoCal Top 25, topped by the host Sea Hawks (No. 6) and Long Beach Poly (7) – the top two seeds in the event.

Rounding out the top four seeds are No. 3 Compton (9 in the Top 25) and No. 4 L.A. Westchester (16).

The eight first-round games will be played, staggered by a half hour, in the school’s main and auxiliary gymnasiums, beginning with the 3 o’clock game between Compton and North Hollywood Campbell Hall in the auxiliary gym and the 3:30 contest pitting Palos Verdes Peninsula and Westchester.

PARKER, CO – The dominant play of two of the national Class of 2016’s best prospects was a major highlight to Sunday’s high school portion of the West Coast Elite Camp/Colorado at Legend High in this Denver suburb.

That one of those juniors is 6-foot-9 De’Ron Davis of Overland High in nearby Aurora is a given:

He’s been widely considered one of the top 2016 post prospects since well before he played a game in a high school uniform. There was an Associated Press story written about in Denver when he was an eighth grader.

PARKER, CO – The “present” of the best of the high school basketball players in Colorado will be on display Sunday during the West Coast Elite Camp/Colorado at Legend High in this Denver suburb.

And the “future” showed off its collective promise Saturday during the elementary and middle school portion of the event.

Approximately 100 players – the vast majority of those in grades 7 and 8 – participated Saturday, with every camp team playing twice and the day culminating with Top 40 and Top 20 all-star games.

SALT LAKE CITY – Most of the very best prep hoop players in Utah – and then some – were on hand Saturday at West High for the first-ever West Coast Elite All-Star Camp/Utah.

There is a particularly strong class of 2016 within the state and Frank Jackson (6-foot-3/Highland Lone Peak), Yoeli Childs (6-7/South Jordan Bingham) and Gavin Baxter (6-7/Provo Timpview) each did his part to justify that perception Saturday.

Jackson scored with something bordering on absurd ease, either in transition or half-court settings, by way of pull-up jumpers – from just about any point at or within the arc – and explosive forays to the rim, around or over the top of defenders.

THOROFARE, N.J. – The East was thoroughly represented on the Top 30 Cream of the Crop All-Star selections Sunday afternoon as the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp wrapped up in the RiverWinds Center.

Players from eight states and the District of Columbia filled the Top 30 roster for the camp’s final game with the squad wearing black jerseys pulling away over the final five minutes for a 110-101 victory.

Sophomore Isaiah Washington (St. Raymond High in the Bronx) scored only six points but his ability to push the ball at a sizzling pace, with his passes leading teammates directly into dunks, layups and wide-open jump shots, sparked a nice run to help the winners black-wearing squad overcome a half-time deficit of five points and seize control of things.
