Alston leads camp standouts

October 6, 2024 By Frank Burlison Leave a Comment

DUNCANVILLE, TX – By the conclusion of Saturday night’s action in the Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph boys’ basketball camp, it was apparent that Reese Alston was as good any as any player in the Duncanville Fieldhouse.

And by the time the camp had wrapped up Sunday afternoon following the Top 30 Cream of the Crop All-Star Game, Alston had stacked even more evidence for those willing to  present the case that he must be considered among the upper tier of the top point guard prospects in the national Class of 2027.

Sophomore forward Jalen White scored a team-high 19 points (including three 3s) for the black jerseys while Caplan scored a game-high 21 points (hitting five of seven shots from behind the arc) and Butler added 10 assists, five rebounds and three steals

REDONDO BEACH – Nineteen boys basketball games – made up of players from some of the top high school programs in Southern California – are set for Redondo High Saturday and Sunday during the Ryse Up Fall Classic.

The event is held in honor of the late Ryse Williams, the all-CIF Southern Selection at Redondo High who died of a rare form of cancer (Renal Medullary Carcinoma) one day before his high school graduation in 2017.

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
