LA VERNE, Ca. – Damien High will play host to a Dec. 26-30, 2016 event that promises to be one of the strongest post-Christmas boys high school tournaments, both regionally and nationally, Damien Coach Mike LeDuc announced Tuesday.

The Classic at Damien, with title sponsorship from the Mark Christopher Auto Center in Ontario, will include three 16-team brackets.

The tournament has already attracted some of the top programs in the West, including six of the CIF Southern Section’s Open Division playoff entrants from last spring: Santa Ana Mater Dei, Corona Centennial, Eastvale Roosevelt, Encino Crespi, Mission Hills Alemany and Damien.

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University men’s basketball coaching staff and the LMU campus will host the “Lion King Shootout” on Sunday.

Thirteen of the better high school programs in Southern California are scheduled to participate in the nine games that are set to begin at 1 in the afternoon and wrap up about four hours later. The teams are made up of players who have eligibility for the 2016-17 season.

Admission to the event is $5.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – What seemed to have all the makings of a terrific NBPA Top 100 Camp championship game Saturday night rapidly turned into a good old-fashioned blowout in the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena.

The Heat zipped to a 28-point advantage at intermission before coasting to a 109-89 victory over the Rockets in the last of the 41 games played over four days and nights during the 22^nd edition of the event.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Day (and night) III of the 22^nd NBPA Top 100 Camp ended with one of the more entertaining 30 games played in the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena since Wednesday afternoon.

The left-handed Rayshaun Hammonds (Norcross, GA) hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer for the Spurs to send their game with the Heat into overtime Friday night.

And then, with two seconds to go in that one-minute OT, Jairus Hamilton (Concord, NC, Cannon School) dropped in another shot from behind the arc and the Spurs had an 80-77 victory.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Not surprisingly in the least, the first two days of the 22^nd NBPA Top 100 camp have produced multiple standouts.

And, during Thursday’s 10 games, two guys stood taller than anyone else among the 100-plus players in the camp that again being held in the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena.

It was during two of those games that Charles Bassey (San Antonio, TX, St. Anthony) turned in a couple of performances that succinctly drove home why he is the top-ranked player in the national Class of 2019.
