CYPRESS, Ca. – The second annual West Coast Showcase, held Sunday from mid-morning through early afternoon at Cypress Community College in this western-most Orange County city, served as a showcase of sorts for the Superior Athletes Basketball club program.

Of course, there were plenty of quality non-Superior Athletes on display, too, among the 60 or so players who got in two games each in front of prep hoops/recruiting analysts analysts including yours truly, Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Aaron Burgin (Full-Time Hoops), Ronnie Flores (Cal-Hi Sports) and Devin Ugland (the rising sports-writing star from the Orange County Register).

THOROFARE, N.J. – Seventeen of the 25 players that were my choices as the best in the 2013 version of the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp reside in Pennsylvania and Maryland.

And, with 11 of those players residents of Philadelphia or reasonably near-by communities, it only figured that a Philly lad sparkle brighter than anyone in the Top 30 Cream of the Crop Game that wrapped of things in the two-day event Sunday afternoon.

Freshman point guard Quade Green of Neumann-Goretti sparked the team wearing the white sides of the camp jerseys to an 87-78 victory, approximately an hour after the squad wearing white pulled away from a team in black jerseys for an 86-81 win in the Top 60 contest.

THOROFARE, N.J. – The first day of the sixth annual Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph provided the distinct impression that things will be pretty much status quo for the event:

There are a whole lot of talented young basketball players on hand, showing off their skills in the RiverWinds Community Center.

Approximately 120 players showed up and plenty of them impressed Saturday, with the 12 camp teams playing a game each in the afternoon and evening.

Action continues Sunday morning at 9 o’clock, as each team will again play twice.

LaGRANGE, IL – The city of Chicago, proper, was well-represented when it came time Sunday evening to sort out my choices for the best players I watched over the course of the two-day 2013 Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp at the Park District Recreation Center.

City programs Simeon (Zach Norvell, Josh Thomas and Ben Coupet), Morgan Park (Charlie Moore and Alonzo Chatman) and Whitney Young (Skylar Nash) accounted for six of the 17 sophomores among my choices for the Top 25 players I saw over the weekend.

LAGRANGE, IL – Day I of the Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp is a wrap.

And consider this:

If freshman Brian Bowen (Saginaw, MI, Hill) has an encore on tap that is anything approaching his opening act on Saturday, there are going to be a whole lot of bedazzled onlookers Sunday at the Park District Recreation Center in this Chicago suburb.

Saturday the slender 6-foot-6 Bowen – who turned down the opportunity to visit Lexington Friday night for Kentucky’s Midnight Madness in order to play at this camp – put on a compelling on-court demonstration as to why his name belongs prominently in any discussion about the best of the best in the Class of 2017 when it comes to high school hoops.
