WALNUT CREEK, Ca. – The 2nd annual Pro-West Exposure Camp wrapped up in nifty fashion Sunday afternoon via its Top 20 All-Star game that threw an even brighter spotlight on some of the top high school boys basketball players in Northern California.

Sophomore point guard N.J. Gray (Branson in Ross)  scored 12 points and directed the dark jersey-wearing team’s offense near-flawlessly en route to a 92-78 victory over its white jerseys-wearing counterpart in the Tice Valley Community Center.

The dark jerseys also got double-figuring scoring out of Dominic Walker (Hayward Moreau/15 points); Brayde Kuykendall (San Ramon California/13); Thomas Conley (Danville San Ramon Valley/12) and Drew Vixon (Brentwood Liberty/11).

WALNUT CREEK, Ca.  – As was the case in its debut a year ago, the second annual Pro-West Exposure Camp created a nifty platform this weekend for some of the best boys high school basketball players in Northern California.

Saturday’s first day of competition in the event’s return to the Tice Valley Community Center featured approximately 120 athletes spread across the classes of 2028 (freshmen) thru 2025 (seniors).

And, not surprisingly, some of the first-day standouts came from programs expected to challenge for NorCal championships in 2025.

SAN DIEGO – The Burgin Family – immediate and extended – did the San Diego (and beyond) Basketball Community another huge favor Saturday at St. Augustine High.

The ninth Crème of the County, the brainchild and labor of love (lots of each) of Aaron Burgin, played host to 11 games, tipping at 8:30 a.m. and wrapping about nine hours later with the Crème de la Crème contest made up of the event’s top performers and “prospects”.

And, in a nifty example of why their team will go into the season as San Diego County’s top-ranked squad, the Montgomery High senior duo of forward J.J.

August 27, 2024 By Frank Burlison 1 Comment

LONG BEACH – For seven or so hours Sunday, McBride High was the high school hoops capital of California.

The sixth Kenny Smith/Pangos Guard Camp Workout and the Beach City Hoops/SoCal Invitational drew a plethora of the top high school players in Southern California and beyond.

Notable among those athletes were Eastvale Roosevelt’s Terrific Trio of Class of 2025 guards, Brayden Burries, Myles Walker and Issac Williamson, along with Inglewood junior Jason Crowe Jr.

Those four were front and center in the final action of the late afternoon, with Burries, Walker and Williamson leading the Class of 2025 team that pulled away in the final minutes to knock off Crowe and his fellow juniors, 82-67.

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
