LA GRANGE, Ill. – Southern California-based hoops entrepreneur  Dinos Trigonis has fronted a lot of “Pangos” camps and the ensuing all-star games that have wrapped each of them up since they made their debut nearly 20 years ago.

But it’s unlikely there have been many – if any – of those games to top the Top 30 contest played Sunday afternoon at the Pangos All-Midwest Frosh-Soph Camp at the Park District Recreation Center in this suburb of Chicago.

A mostly back-and-forth affair between the team wearing white jerseys and its black-wearing counterparts seemingly had turned in the white-wearers’ favor with a few minutes to go.

LA GRANGE, Ill. – Patrick McCaffery got an early start Saturday on a sophomore season that will provide a platform to demonstrate why he is one of the very best high school players and college prospects in the national Class of 2019.

For those of you trying to sort out that sentence, rest assured that the very best high school players – based upon how guys happen to play while in high school – isn’t always the same thing as being among elite college prospects.

SANTA MONICA, Ca. – The University of Arizona Wildcats basketball program picked up another elite commitment from the Class of 2017 when 6-foot-8 forward Ira Lee revealed that he would be signing a national letter of intent with the Wildcats next month.

“It was a place I felt I could go, get immediate playing time and develop,” he said in a telephone interview Thursday morning. “And it’s also a program that is a national championship contender.”

Lee enrolled at the Crossroads School late in the summer.

DALLAS – The second stop on the fall national Pangos All-Frosh/Soph circuit got a nice jolt of energy – and talent – Sunday.

Two sophomores from Guyer High in Denton showed up Sunday morning and easily played their way into Sunday afternoon’s Top 30 All-Star game that wrapped up the All-Frosh/Soph South Camp that was held at the Triple A/Focused Learning Academy.

Left-handed De’Vion Harmon, a one-time football standout who gave up the grid iron this summer to focus on hoops, made a compelling on-court argument that he’s the top point guard prospect in the Class of 2019 during the Oct.

DALLAS – A year ago as a freshman, barely two months after having migrated to the U.S. from Nigeria, Charles Bassey was far and away the best player at the Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp.

And, based on what was seen of him Saturday afternoon at the Triple A-Focused Learning Academy, it’s much of the same the second time-around at the camp for the now-sophomore at St. Anthony High in San Antonio.

The second and final day of the event tips off at 9 o’clock Sunday morning with four sets of games played across the three courts (meaning each team plays once) and wrapping up at noon before Top 50 (1:15 p.m.)
