CARTERSVILLE, Ga. – Some highlights from Friday night’s action in the Lakepoint Sporting Community Champions Center, on Day 1 of session No. 3 of the Nike/Elite Youth Basketball League:

JAY WRIGHT’S next elite jump shooter was on display during the first session (6:30) of games Friday night.

Six-foot-four Justin Moore (Hyattsville, MD, DeMatha), a recent commitment for Villanova from the Class of 2019, nailed four consecutive 3s in the first half to help Team Takeover (Washington, DC-area) cruise to a double-figure lead and eventually knock off the PSA Cardinals (New York), 81-69.

BELLFLOWER, Ca. – Under Armour held eight regional “UA Next” workouts for some of the best players in the high school Class of 2022 on Saturday.

The western version of the event was held at St. John Bosco High, with 36 eighth graders from California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Nebraska on hands for a couple hours of drill work and then a few more hours of scrimmaging.

Approximately 24 players from the collective sites will be selected to attend the national “UA Next” event in New York on a date to be determined in August.

INDIANAPOLIS – Some highlights of my three days of watching the second sessions of the Nike/Elite Youth Basketball League (in Carmel) and the Under Armour Association (in Fishers).

Point Guards on Parade: The respective best point guards in the Classes of 2019 (Cole Anthony/Briarwood, NY, Archbishop Molloy/PSA Cardinals-EYBL) and 2020 (Nico Mannion/Phoenix Pinnacle/West Coast Elite-UAA) demonstrated why I consider them such over the weekend.

Is there any chance they could face up on a basketball court somewhere before they are (inevitably) both playing in the NBA?

SAN PEDRO – The 20^th Collison Basketball All-Star games are set for Saturday evening at Harbor Community College.

The games will pit some of the better players in the L.A. City Section against their Southern Section counterparts.

The girls’ contest is set to tip off at 5:30 with the boys’ game to follow at approximately 7:30.

The City squad is expected to be led by some of the better guards in the regional and national classes of 2018 in Birmingham’s Devonaire Doutrive (PICTURED/Arizona), Taft’s Kihei Clark (Virginia) and Fairfax’s Jamal Hartwell (George Mason).

BELLFLOWER – The “Kings and Queens of the Court” prep hoops games are set for today at St. John Bosco High.

Three girls games (two for underclassmen and the third for seniors) will be played, beginning at noon, with two boys – each with only seniors – will begin at 4:45 and 6:30.

Admission, good for all games, is $10.

Among those scheduled to participate are guards Cameron Shelton (Damien) and Darryl Polk Jr (Long Beach Poly). They are committed to matriculate to Harvard, Northern Arizona and Pepperdine, respectively.
