Etienne, Kuminga pace terrific Pangos All-Star clash

October 28, 2018 By Frank Burlison Leave a Comment

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – The two best “big” prospects in the camp turned in terrific performances Sunday afternoon in a deliriously entertaining Top 30 Crème of the Crop All-Star Game to wrap up the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp at the RiverWinds Center in this Philadelphia suburb.

And, appropriately enough, 6-foot-10 Micawber Etienne – who dominated the competition from the moment he stepped onto the floor for his camp team “Georgetown” Saturday afternoon – scored the Top 30 game-winning bucket for the black jersey-wearing squad in a two-overtime, 87-85 decision over its white jersey-clad counterpart.

October 28, 2018 By Frank Burlison Leave a Comment

WEST DEPTFORD, NJ – The last stop on the Pangos “All Frosh/Soph Camp” tour got off to a dazzling start Saturday, with multiple standouts from the Classes of 2021 and ’22 in the “All-East” portion of the tour at the Riverwinds Community Center.

Among those were a couple of 6-foot-8 sophomores who came into the camp already loaded with Class of 2021 national kudos in Jonathan Kuminga (who is attending Our Savior American in New York after playing for Huntington Prep in West Virginia as a freshman) and Trey Patterson of Rutgers Prep in New Jersey.

Chicago frosh PG among final-day Pangos standouts

October 21, 2018 By Frank Burlison Leave a Comment

LA GRANGE, IL – The Pangos All-Midwest Frosh/Soph Camp wrapped up Sunday afternoon exactly the way most anticipated it would before it had even tipped off some 24 hours before:

Patrick Baldwin Jr. proved once more than he is among the very best of the best – as in, perhaps, the best – players in the national high school class of 2021.

The sophomore at Hamilton High in the Milwaukee suburb of Sussex picked up the overall Most Outstanding Player honor for event that was a showcase for some 200 or so players in attendance (the bulk of those coming from Illinois).

Baldwin is not the only standout at Pangos F/S Camp

October 21, 2018 By Frank Burlison Leave a Comment

La Grange, IL – Six-foot-nine Patrick Baldwin Jr. demonstrated precisely Saturday at the Park District facility that he intends on collecting his second consecutive Most Outstanding Player honor for the Midwest version of the Pangos All-Frosh/Soph Camp.

Baldwin (Sussex, WI, Hamilton), making his third appearance at the Dinos Trigonis-fronted event, used his two camp games (with “Cincinnati”) to showcase the remarkable growth – literal and figurative – he has made as a player since he made his debut at the camp two years ago.

The son of the head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee had a strong spring and summer on the grassroots circuit with the Milwaukee-based Phenom University 16s club program while also having a solid effort during the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, VA.

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
