LOUISVILLE – I had quite a “productive” Memorial Weekend in the Kentucky Exposition Center – evaluation-wise – during the third session of the Nike/EYBL spring season.

Here are 10 observations:

   *The Boozer Twins: I got a long look at them (an entire game) and their Florida-base Nightrydas Elite 15U squad. And all the winter/spring hype generated by twins Cameron (6-foot-8) and Cayden (6-4ish) Boozer was, for the most part, spot-on.

  Cameron was the best “power forward-type” I saw over the weekend, regardless of class. He was just as powerful but more skilled than his dad (former Duke and NBA forward Carlos Boozer) at the same stage of their careers.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two of Southern California’s top basketball “big men” from the Southern California Class of 2022, are – for the time being – likely bound for “prep schools” in the 2022-23 academic and basketball year.

But, based upon the on-court performances turned in by 6-foot-9 Elijah Price (Long Beach St. Anthony) and 6-8 Tyler Bey (Fairfax) for Why Not and the Oakland Soldiers, respectively, during the Memorial Weekend Nike/EYBL session in the Kentucky Exposition Center, there may be other destinations in store for the gifted duo.

LYNWOOD, Ca. – The Harvard-Westlake Class of 2024 duo of Robert Hinton and Trent Perry continued its assault on the Pangos All-American Preview competition as the two-day hoops showcase event wrapped up Sunday afternoon at Lynwood High.

The 6-foot-5 Hinton and his 6-4 HW classmate shared “tri-Player of the Camp” honors – as selected by Pangos CEO Dinos Trigonis — with another current sophomore, Seven Bahati.

Bahati was a freshman standout at Los Altos High in Hacienda Heights before spending his sophomore “season” coming off the bench for the “Donda Academy” program that is based in the San Fernando but isn’t allowed to compete against California Interscholastic Federation (which includes Southern, L.A.

LYNWOOD, Ca. – Approximately 90 players were on hand Saturday afternoon at Lynwood High for the first two rounds of games during the Pangos All-American Preview Camp.

The bulk of those were from in and around Southern California with the lure of the camp being that playing well enough on Saturday and Sunday could help a player bag an invitation the mega-prestigious, June 5-7 Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas.

But a player who covered the longest trek to the event – 2,150-plus air miles from Florida – was as impressive as anyone during the first two sets of games among the 10 camp “teams”.

LAS VEGAS – The Salt Lake Rebels 17’s Gray squad took command early and then cruised to an 80-67 victory over Oxnard, CA-based Team Build Up Sunday afternoon in the title game of the Invitational Division of the Pangos Spring Sweet 16 at Bishop Gorman High.

Former UNLV standout Evric Gray, who brought seven of his Salt Lake City-based Rebels’ program’s teams to the event, got a flashy all-around performance from 6-foot-6 guard Dylan Jones (Westlake High in Sarasota Springs, UT) to cap a run of four wins since Friday night over Arizona, San Diego, Northern California and, finally, a Team Build Up team that had scored buzzer-beating wins over Las Vegas’ Hard 2 Guard and Arizona-based The Factory 17U Saturday.
