REDONDO BEACH – The Harvard-Westlake boys’ basketball team – a couple of days before what should be its toughest challenge of the young season so far – improved to 7-0 Thursday night with its second win of the week during the Ryse Williams/Pac Shores Showcase at Redondo Union High.

The Wolverines, who knocked off St. Anthony Tuesday night, trailed by a point after the first period Thursday night before taking a 10-point advantage at intermission on route to a 72-51 decision against San Gabriel Academy.

The comp should amp Saturday night (6 o’clock) in the final game of the event when Coach David Rebibo’s squad faces Rancho Christian.

REDONDO BEACH – Siblings Marcus Jr. and Maximo Adams helped show why the Narbonne High Gauchos came into the season with something more than a strong chance to win the L.A. City Section’s Open Division title.

Marcus (who spent last season at a prep school in Corona) and Maximo – one of the elite freshmen anywhere in the west – combined for 38 points to help their squad edge Long Beach Jordan, 64-62, on Wednesday’s second day of the Ryse Williams/Pac Shores Showcase at Redondo Union High.

REDONDO BEACH – The Campbell Hall, Beverly Hills, Windward and Harvard-Westlake boys basketball teams all picked up victories on Tuesday’s first day of the Ryse Williams/Pac Shores Showcase at Redondo High – the alma mater of the late and great Williams.

Harvard-Westlake (No. 2 in the BurlisonOnBasketball SoCal ratings) closed the first night out by improving to 6-0 with its 83-40 victory over Long Beach St. Anthony.

Campbell Hall went to 3-0 in the first game while knocking off Inglewood, 76-59.

In the most compelling – aka, “tight” – game played Tuesday, Beverly Hills held off Irvine Crean Lutheran, 69-68.

REDONDO BEACH – Nationally ranked Harvard-Westlake headlines this week’s Ryse Williams/Pac Shores boys’ basketball tournament at Redondo Union High.

The 5-0 Wolverines (No. 2 in California behind Corona Centennial) will be in action three times at the event, beginning Tuesday night (8 o’clock) against Long Beach St. Anthony.

Coach David Rebibo’s club returns to Redondo Union for a Thursday night (7 o’clock) game with No. 30 San Gabriel Academy, then wraps up the week by taking on Rancho Christian Saturday night at 6.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA – If their preseason ratings and Monday night performances are the best indicators, then it would appear inevitable that the Etiwanda and Rancho Cucamonga boys’ basketball teams will meet in the championship game of the Inland Empire Tournament Saturday night.

And, if their on-court history is another solid barometer, one of those teams would seem to have reason to feel confident about its chances in that projected final.

Some 75 minutes or so after host Rancho Cucamonga improved to 5-0 with its eased-up, 97-46 win against Victor Valley, Etiwanda wrapped up the four-game “non- bracketed schedule” played Monday as part of the IE tourney in the same systematic fashion against Redlands East Valley, 74-27.
