The event continues at Chapparal Friday, with prep school matchups at 4 p.m. MT (Veritas Prep of Southern California vs. Chandler, AZ, Canyon International) and 5:30 (Wasatch Academy of Utah vs. Chandler Compass Prep).

REDONDO BEACH, Ca. – The St. John Bosco High Braves, in just their second game of the season, scored 31 first-quarter points en route to a 78-37 victory over San Gabriel Academy Wednesday night at Redondo Union High during the second day of the 72^nd Ryse Williams/Pacific Shores boys’ basketball event.

The No. 2 squad in the BurlisonOnBasketball Top 30 got 17 points from junior guard Elzie Harrington (including a couple of spectacular slams) and 15 apiece from senior Jack Turner and sophomore Brandon McCoy.

REDONDO BEACH — Three of the five games played during Tuesday’s long first day of the 72^nd Ryse Williams/Pacific Shores event at Redondo Union High needed a collective five overtimes to determine winners.

Not surprisingly, Harvard-Westlake wasn’t one of those basketball teams needing extra time to bag its fifth win in as many tries.

Coach David Rebibo’s defending state Open Division champion got all but 10 of its points from its “Big Three” of seniors Trent Perry (30) and Robert Hinton (23), and junior Nikolas Khamenia (20), to keep a gritty La Mirada squad at bay, 83-68, in what qualified as the first “competitive” contest the Wolverines had been involved with in a season just into its 16^th day Tuesday.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Ca. — Eight teams from among the first 13 in the updated BurlisonOnBasketball Top 30 SoCal ratings — including No.’s 1, 2&3 squads — will participate in the 72^nd Ryse Williams/Pacific Shores, which tips off at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon at Redondo Union High.

The Southland’s top pre-Christmas high school hoops event also includes six other squads from among the Top 30 that will participate in single game “showcase” (non-tournament) competition that runs five days thru Saturday evening.

DUBLIN, Ca. — The “North” and “South” split their two high-profile matchups Saturday during the nine-game, 16^th NorCal Tip-Off Classic at Dublin High.

*Eastvale (located about nine miles north of Corona, for those familiar with Riverside County) Roosevelt trailed 5-zip before reeling off 19 consecutive points en route to 77-72 victory over San Francisco Riordan.

The 5-0 Mustangs hit 10 3-pointers in the first half (they finished with 14) while going in front by as many as 21 points before intermission.

That advantage was 19 points going into the final quarter before Coach Steve Singleton’s offense bogged down via rushed/ill-advised shot attempts (usually, after one pass beyond mid-court) and six missed free throws.
