CARSON, Ca. – The East Coast is being represented quite admirably at the 13^th Pangos All-American Camp, thank you very much.

Rawle Alkins, Myles Powell, Keith Williams, Taurean Thompson, Isaiah Washington, Shamorie Ponds, Bryce Aiken and Mustapha Heron are among those who were seeing to that on Saturday’s second day of the camp at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

*Alkins (6-foot-4/NYC Christ The King), who had a strong spring for the New York Rens on the adidas circuit after a sterling prep junior season, continued to make a strong on-court argument that he is as good as any “shooting/2 guard” in the national class of 2016.

CARSON, Ca. – The 13^th version of the Pangos All-American Camp tipped off Friday night at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Roughly 100 players were on hand, with some expected attendees unable to play because of illness or injury and some others expected to show up on Saturday morning.

The players are spread over 12 teams, split between “ACC” and “Pac 12” school names.

Of the six games played Friday night, I zeroed in on the two played on Court 1, beginning with the “ACC” clash between “Duke” and “Georgia Tech”:

*Mustapha Heron (Class of 2016/Waterbury, CT, Sacred Heart) is a 6-foot-5 left hander with the body making him look like one of those “big” modern National Football League receivers, a la Larry Fitzgerald, who catch 80-plus footballs per season.

CARSON, Ca. – The 13^th Pangos All-American Camp – annually one of the top high school hoops events of the spring and summer – is set for this weekend at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Camp games – with 12 teams of approximately 110 players from across the United States (and beyond) – begin Friday night at 8:30 with two sessions spread over three courts.

Games resume (again, two sessions over three courts) at 3 Saturday afternoon at resumed at 6:45.

There will be two more game sessions Sunday morning (beginning at 9:30).

LONG BEACH, Ca. – The Utah Prospects program left the city with championships in the 14-, 15- and 16-under divisions Monday afternoon.

But it was the Southern California-based Double Pump squad that captured the biggest prize during the final day of the Magic Memorial Festival in the Cabrillo High gymnasium.

Despite trailing by as many as eight points in the second half, Double Pump took the lead at 48-46 over the L.A. Rockfish with about 30 seconds to go and that shot by L.A. Dorsey High senior-to-be Tommie Groce proved to provide the final points of the Battlezone 17U bracket.

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Ca. – Josh Jackson is a multi-skilled prospect, by way of Michigan, who played for the “Prolific Prep” academy in Northern California’s Napa Valley this past season.

And, like all of the region’s extraordinary wine, Jackson’s on-court talents have already aged quite well, thank you very much.

Jackson was the narrow choice over Jayson Tatum (St. Louis Chaminade) and Lonzo Ball (Chino Hills in Southern California as the BurlisonOnBasketball national “Junior of the Year” for the 2014-15 season.

The 20 players were chosen based upon their on-court accomplishments and not necessarily on how extensively they are being recruited, or will be recruited, for their on-court potential in college.
