DRAPER, Utah – The Chris PoPoola-fronted EAT Utah Camp was held Saturday at the APA Center in this suburb of Salt Lake City, with 80 or so players in attendance and each playing twice a day.

It offered an insightful look into the present state of the best high school players in Utah while also providing an in-depth opportunity to see the future of the state’s best prospects.

And there were also a handful of top-quality players from outside of Utah who stood out in their two games apiece, too.

CULVER CITY, Ca. – Nine boys’ basketball games involving CIF Southern and L.A. City teams at set for Sunday at Culver City High in the second Ryse Up Fall Classic.

Admission is $10 with proceeds going to the Ryse Williams Charitable Foundation.

Ryse Williams was a two-time all-Southern Section selection at Redondo High who had signed a national letter of intent with Loyola Marymount University but died from a rare form of cancer a few days before he was scheduled to graduate at Redondo in June of 2017.

WESTMINSTER, Ca. – The theme of the 2018 Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp that was established on Saturday at Westminster High didn’t wasn’t derailed during Sunday’s final day of the event.

A camp that numbers Lonzo Ball, Russell Westbrook, Jrue and Aaron Holiday, Tyler Dorsey, Brandon Jennings, Jaylen Hands, Jarryd Bayless and many, many other among its alumni may never have had as many top-level guards at one time as were on hand over the weekend.

And that point was illustrated adroitly in the Top 30 Crème of the Crop all-star game Sunday afternoon.

WESTMINSTER, Ca. – Saturday’s first day of action in the Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp at Westminster High made once succinct point:

There are a whole lot of terrific point guard prospects in the event.

There are so many of point guards (or, if you’d prefer, “point guard-types”) on hands that at least two of the camp teams had two terrific prospects at the position on their rosters.

The most notable of those are Arizona State, with 6-foot-1 freshman Richard Isaacs Jr. (Henderson, NV, Coronado) and 6-4 sophomore Chris Howell (San Marcos), and Air Force, by way of 6-2 sophomore Isael Silva (Carmichael Jesuit) and 6-foot sophomore Zaon Collins (Las Vegas Bishop Gorman).

GARDEN GROVE, Ca. – Saturday’s Pangos Best of SoCal Fall Showcase, held at Santiago High, proved to be a nice preview, of sorts, for next Saturday and Sunday’s Pangos Frosh/Soph All-West Camp at Westminster High.

Many of the best players in the SoCal Classes of 2023 (eighth graders), ’22 (freshmen) and ’21 (sophomores) were on display at Santiago and each of those showed the skill that they hope will make them standouts next weekend when the competition – which will include players from throughout the west – gets considerably stiffer.
