WILMINGTON, DEL – Even the chaos and comedy that permeated the Crème of the Crop, Top 30 All-Star Game that wrapped up the event Sunday afternoon couldn’t soil the mostly superb two days of action during the Pangos East Frosh/Soph Camp at the Nothing But Net Sports Academy.
Shortly after Ashton Graves (Washington, DC, Archbishop Carroll) hit the game-winning 3 from the left corner for the dark jerseys in the Top 30 All-Star clash, fellow sophomores Josh Charlot (Fairfield, CT, Notre Dame Prep) and Daniel Abass (Hyattsville, MD, DeMatha) were announced as the co-Most Outstanding Players in the camp.
The 6-foot-4 Graves also hit the 3 (with 40 seconds remaining) that sent the contest into overtime.
Event Director and Pangos/Belmont Shore Basketball founder and CEO Dinos Trigonis said that the game would be decided not over a set period (say, a three-, two- or even one-period extension of play) but the first team to score would the sudden winner.
About six minutes and a dozen near point-blank misses on shots later – and after officials said the game wouldn’t be decided by a free throw but a field goal, leading to a whole lot hard fouls on shot attempts on both ends – Graves finally put a 3-point bow on the camp.
There were approximately 200 players in attendance (with 16 of them listed at 6-8 or taller), spread across 15 states, as well as Washington (DC) and Canada.
The event wrapped up the annual Pangos Frosh/Soph series, with the first stop in Long Beach, CA (West/Sept. 21&22); the second in Duncanville, TX (South/Oct. 5&6) and the third in Chicago (Midwest/Oct. 19&20).
The players offering the biggest challenge to Charlot (pictured left) and Abass (pictured right) for Most Outstanding honors were sophomore Jacoby Briscoe and freshman William Brunson II.
The selections were made based upon performance over both days of the camp (three games prior to the Top 70 and 30 all-star games) and not on potential.
