REDONDO BEACH – Nineteen boys basketball games – made up of players from some of the top high school programs in Southern California – are set for Redondo High Saturday and Sunday during the Ryse Up Fall Classic.
The event is held in honor of the late Ryse Williams, the all-CIF Southern Selection at Redondo High who died of a rare form of cancer (Renal Medullary Carcinoma) one day before his high school graduation in 2017.
The event will raise money for the Ryse Williams Foundation, which awards scholarships to high school students while raising awareness of RMC.
Eight games are set for Saturday, with the first tipping off at 9 a.m.
Eleven are scheduled for Sunday (and will be held in both school’s gymnasiums).
Per CIF SS requests, the teams aren’t not identified by high school names but by mascots or nicknames.
Among the players set to participate are those representing the host school (the “Beach Boys”), as well as tradition CIF SS powers Long Beach Poly (“Elite Skills”), Etiwanda (“Clamp City”) and Bishop Montgomery (“Knights”), along with L.A. City Open Division favorite Westchester (“Comets”).
Daily admission (for all games) is $15 for those older than 10 years old.
