SAN GABRIEL – Kevin McCloskey, whose teams won CIF Southern Section titles in 2014 and ’23, is stepping down as the boys’ basketball coach and athletic director at San Gabriel Academy – effective Aug. 1 – he said Tuesday night.
McCloskey, who said he will go to work helping lead a “small financial company” when his duties at SGA are completed, coached his 13 teams to a cumulative 252-121 mark. During that stretch, he coached three CIF SS Players of the Year and 13 all-state selections. His sons Ian and Ethan were also standouts for him.
His replacement will be his top assistant with the program for 13 years, Danny Pieploi.
“It’s been a rewarding journey, helping kids learn to win the battle ‘between the ears’ and grow into wonderful young men of character and compassion,” McCloskey said.
