The 16th Nor-Cal Tip-Off — with its nine-game field — gets underway Saturday morning at 8 o’clock at Dublin High.

Rise and shine, indeed!

Many of the top teams from Northern California will be joined by a couple of the best teams from the south — and in the entire west — in what should be a terrific day of basketball.

The action gets underway with Oakland Head-Royce facing San Jose Bellarmine Prep.

The “So-Cal vs. Nor-Cal” clashes are set for 2 and 8:30.

Eastvale Roosevelt (No. 5 in the BurlisonOnBasketball SoCal Top 30), which has knocked off four opponents by an average margin of 37 points, takes on San Francisco Riordan.

Roosevelt is led by 6-foot-4 junior Brayden Burries (averaging 31 ppg) while Riordan (making its season debut) is paced by 6-8, St. Mary’s-bound Zion Sensley and 6-3 sophomore Andrew Hillman.

And, in the event’s finale, Corona Centennial (No. 4 in the SoCal Top 30) faces another California powerhouse in Concord De La Salle at 8:30.

Six-eight, University of Arizona-bound Carter Bryant (pictured) — a transfer from Sage Hill in Newport Beach — is scheduled to make his debut for Centennial after being ruled eligible by the CIF Southern Section Monday.

DLS has one of the elite all-around athletes in the region in 6-6 junior Alec Blair, a two-year backcourt starter and one of the top baseball hitters in the state.
Dublin is located at 8151 Village Parkway in Dublin. Tickets are available at the door.

All games will be live-streamed and archived by BallerTV.

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
