DUNCANVILLE, TX – The second stop on the annual fall Pangos regional Frosh/Soph schedule tipped off Saturday.
And it was quite the day, indeed, for the frosh portion of the All-South camp version of the camp in the Duncanville Fieldhouse in this Dallas suburb.
A flock of sophomores from throughout the southern region of the country were superb Saturday, among those being the New Orleans Isadore Newman trio of Christopher Cenac Jr. (6-foot-8), Christopher Birden (6-7) and Kobe Butler (6-4).
Also in that category were the likes of Ethan Carter (6-7) of Fairburn (GA) Arlington Christian; Kentrell Martin (6-5) of Dover (FL) Strawberry Crest; Christopher Lindo (6-6) of Baton Rouge (LA) Madison Prep; Jaylon Dean-Vines (6-3) of Mesquite (TX) Poteet and Patton Pinkins (6-4) of Wolfforth (TX) Frienship – as well as a kid who came from the not-quite-so southern high school of Peoria (IL) Manual, 6-5 Dietrich Richardson.
But it was the kids who have yet to play a “real” high school game grabbing most of the shine Saturday among the 200 or so players who were spread among the 24 team that played twice apiece.
Among those were:
*The Oklahoma duo of 6-6 Phoenix Woodson (pictured/Oklahoma City Crossings Christian) and 6-6 Jalen Montonati (Owasso), each of which was as polished and sound of prospects as were in the building at any time;
*Some more fellows from Coach Randy Livingston’s Isadore Newman program, guards Chance Vinson and Sebastian Thrower;
*Six-three Trent Perry (Lonestar in Frisco, TX), who was the best passer I saw Saturday but who also threw down three crunching slams over the top of defenders in his second game for “Arkansas”;
*A couple of dandy “bigs” from San Antonio-based high schools in oh-so-smooth, 6-7 TreVaun Clark (Wagner) and 6-8 Delano Tarpley (Sotomayer);
*Six-five LaDaryl Robinson (Marion), the latest “future star” from Arkansas to come to this stop on the Pangos Frosh/Soph tour;
*And two kids from Dallas, 6-6 Anthony Spencer III (Faith Family Academy) and 6-3 Bryce Dixon (Pinkston).
Camp action resumes Sunday morning at 9 o’clock (CT), with Top 60 (1:15 p.m.) and Top 30 (2:15) all-star games wrapping things up.
As always with Pangos events, BallerTV live-streams and archives all of the games.
The Western stop on the Frosh/Soph circuit was last weekend in Long Beach (CA), with the Midwest’s coming Oct. 15&16 in Chicago, and the East concluding things in Philadelphia the following weekend.
