ORLANDO – Six-foot-nine Gregory “GG” Jackson, who is committed to signing a National Letter of Intent with the University of North Carolina in November, used his immense athletic power and hoops skill to help “Team Suns” past “Team Hawks”, 56-49, in the championship game of the 25h All-NBPA Top 100 Camp playoffs Friday afternoon at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports Center.
Jackson, while often pitted, 1-on-1, against Baye Fall (another of the elite “bigs” in the national Class of 2023), scored 13 points – despite missing 12 of 17 shots from the floor – to go with seven rebounds to cap a 7-0 run during the week.
Earlier Friday, Jackson averaged 16 points and 9.5 rebounds in quarterfinal and semifinal victories against the Bulls and Celtics, respectively.
Fall, who picked up his second consecutive all-NBPA Top 100 Camp selection after the loss dropped his team’s mark to 5-2 for the week, went for eight points and 13 rebounds in the finale and averaged 14.7 points and 13.3 rebounds on the day.
Camp action got underway with a 3-on-3 tournament, positional drills, practices for the 10 teams and a scrimmage on Tuesday.
Each team played two games on Wednesday and Thursday, with something approaching 300+ college coaches and NBA scouts watching from court-side.
Among recent NBPA Top 100 Most Outstanding Player honorees was, in 2019, Paolo Banchero – made the over No. 1 selection in the NBA Draft, by Orlando, on June 23.
And, although the 25th MOP was – based on the outcome of the championship game – going to be either Jackson or Fall, another all-camp selection, Cameron Boozer, played as well as anyone did during the camp.
And what’s noteworthy about that is that the 6-8 Boozer (whose twin, Cayden, also played in the camp) doesn’t turn 15 years old until July 18.
Cameron Boozer, the consensus top-ranked prospect in the national Class of 2025, missed two camp games Thursday with a mild sprain to his left ankle.
But, in two games for the Lakers Friday, he averaged 15.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals.
Among the other all-Camp selections were Southern California-based, seniors-to-be Jared McCain (Centennial) and Dusty Stromer (Notre Dame), who are also teammates on the Why Not 17s on the Nike/EYBL circuit.
