LOS ANGELES – The fourth “Ryse Up Fall Classic” is set for Saturday and Sunday at Fairfax and St. Monica high schools, respectively.
The scheduled 15-game boys basketball event is held in honor of the late Redondo Union High standout guard Ryse Williams, who died of a rare form of cancer (Renal Medullary Carcinoma) just a day before his scheduled graduation at Redondo in June of 2017.
The event wasn’t held a year ago because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eight games (beginning at 9 a.m.) are scheduled to be played at Fairfax on Saturday, with seven more (starting at 9:30) set for St. Monica on Sunday.
Fairfax’s head coach is Reggie Morris Jr., Williams’ coach at Redondo for his first three years. St. Monica’s head coach is Roy Walker, who was an assistant at Redondo during Williams’ four years there.
Daily admission is $10, with proceeds benefiting the Ryse Williams Charitable Foundation (www.ryseupnow.org) foundation.
The event is held in conjunction with Team Why Not.
