LONG BEACH – Six-foot-eight seniors Jorge Ochoa (La Mirada High) and Elijah Price (St. Anthony) scored 21 and 14 points, respectively to lead the white jerseys to a 79-64 victor over their black counterparts Tuesday night in the Crème of the Crop All-Star.
The game, the last of four played in the Assumption Greek Church gymnasium, served as the finale to the three-week Pangos Best of SoCal Fall League.
Scoring in double figures for the black jerseys were 6-4 jump shooter-deluxe Malik Moore (a senior at Heritage Christian) and 6-8 Jimmy Oladokun Jr. (a junior at Damien with a 4.5 grade point average who is enrolled in five Advanced Placement course), who chipped in with 16 and 13, respectively.
Price (pictured) scored 31 points earlier in the evening while leading the Warriors past the Suns, 82-62.
Over the weekend the rapidly improving Price – one of the more under-appreciated players at his size in this western class – turned in a couple of strong efforts in Las Vegas during the Pangos Festival.
Six players from Bishop Montgomery’s junior class – posts Xavier Edmonds and Will Brenner, and guards Will Smith III, Christian Jones, Kelcy Phipps and Kyle Russell – impressed Wednesday night to illustrate why the Knights should be one of the CIF Southern Sections’ better teams in the coming season.
Others who played well Wednesday included:
*Six-four Tyrone Riley, a left-handed sophomore at St. Pius/St. Matthias who scored 30 points (including six 3s) in the night’s first game;
*The Fairfax sophomore backcourt duo of David Mack (a clever and slick point guard who passed as well as anyone Wednesday) and Jaden Hubbard (who scored 18 of his 20 points via six 3s);
*The Los Altos trio of 7-foot junior Jazz Gardner and his 6-2 freshman brother Jai Gardner, as well as 6-4 Seven Bahati, who was one of Southern California’s top five freshmen last season.
