MANHATTAN BEACH, Ca. – Three Top 30 Crème of the Crop selections from the June 6-8 Pangos All-American Camp were among the multitude of standouts Thursday night during the Pangos Premier 80 Showcase in Mira Costa High’s spiffy new gymnasium.
Two of the elite prospects from the national class of 2022, 6-foot-8 Aidan Shaw (Brandon, MO, Link Academy) and 7-foot Adrame Diongue (Chandler, AZ, Compass Prep), impacted play at both ends of the floor – notably on defense.
Diongue was among several outstanding shot blockers at the event while Shaw’s energy in challenging dribblers, passers and shooters was in over-gear each moment he was on the floor.
And 6-3 R.J. Jones (pictured) – who will attend John Paul II in Plano after playing as a freshman and sophomore at another Texas high school, Braswell – demonstrated why he is among the top 5 or so “combo guards” in the class of 2023, hitting six 3s in his second game while also setting up teammates with some nifty passes.
The national class of 2024 was also well-represented Thursday night in the eight-game event (the players were divvied into eight teams).
First, and foremost, among those was California’s Freshman of the Year, 6-5 Isaiah Elohim (Northridge Heritage Christian). His playmaking and handling skills are often overshadowed by his spectacular finishes.
Elohim was the Most Outstanding 2024 player at the 2020 Pangos Frosh-Soph All-West Camp last September in St. George, UT.
Bagging that honor in Chicago in October at the All-Midwest Camp was 6-9 James Brown (Chicago St. Rita) and he was the most offensively skilled “center” in the Mira Costa facility Thursday night.
The third player from the 2024 class who also elevated himself – literally and figuratively – from much of the crowd Thursday was 6-2 Jase Richardson, the left-handed son of former Michigan State and NBA player Jason Richardson.
He’s on the path to becoming Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Coach Grant Rice’s next McDonald’s All-American.
