CIF SS Open teams dominate 21 for 2021 ratings

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Ca. – The eight teams selected to the CIF Southern Section’s Open Division playoff field, along with the three squads closest to being a part of that group, take up the first 11 spots on the final regular-season BurlisonOnBasketball “21 for 2021” ratings.

Sierra Canyon secured the top spot with its 86-74 win over host and now-No. 9 Heritage Christian on Saturday – an opponent that could prove to be as tough a foe for them as any the Trailblazers could face in the Open playoffs.

Coach Andre Chevalier’s team, in pursuit of its third consecutive Open sectional title in a row, open the playoffs at home in Chatsworth Friday night against St. John Bosco.

The Braves, closing their regular season at 19-2 after three wins last week, are No. 7 in the updated ratings.

The teams just behind the Open Division entrants are No. 9 Heritage Christian and 11 Chaminade – the top-two seeds in the Division I playoff field – and No. 10 Colony, which is atop the Division 2AA bracket.
