ST. GEORGE, UTAH – Jordan Ross put on a dazzling performance to lead his Top 30 Crème of the Crop squad to victory Sunday afternoon to wrap up the two-day, Pangos All-West Frosh/Soph Camp in the Net’s on Fire facility.

Ross (pictured) is a 6-foot-1 sophomore at Pleasant Grove – located about 270 miles north of St. George and also in Utah.

He scored 11 points with five rebounds and seven assists to dominate the contest for the white jersey-wearing squad in its 142-126 decision over its dark jersey counterpart.

Sure, there wasn’t a whole lot of stout defense played across the board in the contest but there was 55 minutes of game time to accommodate the 30 players split between the squads.

Six-three sophomore Darius Carr (St. Bernard in Southern California) scored a game-high 18 points for the winner while another SoCal-bas3d 10th grader, 6-7 Zack Davidson (Mater Dei), had 17 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the losing team.

In the Top 60 All-Star contest that preceded the Top 30 clash, sophomore guard Maurice Wright (Santa Clarita Christian) scored 18 points for the white jerseys in their 94-84 victory while another player from SoCal, 6-3 freshman Trent Perry (Harvard-Westlake), had 16 points and five rebounds for the losing club.

Sixteen players in the Crème of the Crop are from Southern California; four from Northern California; five from the Las Vegas area; two from Utah and one apiece from Arizona, New Mexico and Oregon.

Twenty-two of the players are in the Class of 2023 with the other eight in the Class of 2024.

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
