DUNCANVILLE, Tx. – The Dallas-based Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy boys’ basketball program won the Texas State 4A championship last spring.

Based upon what transpired during the Pangos All-South Frosh/Soph Camp Saturday and Sunday in the Duncanville Fieldhouse, it may be something like “Thank you, Texas .  . . may we have another?” in 2020.

Three sophomores from the program, Trae Clayton, Dallas Hobbs and Jordan Walsh, were among the “best of the best” at the event and were among my choices for the Top 25 performers in the camp.

The 6-foot-6 Walsh – a top all-star game choice at the same event a year ago – was the camp’s co-Most Outstanding Player, with Keyonte George (Lewisville), as selected by camp founder and director Dinos Trigonis.

My choice as the top performer, though is Lee Dort (pictured/Plano North Dallas Adventist), a 6-10 240-pounder who dominated every opponent in three camp games and in the Top 30 All-Star game that wrapped things up Sunday afternoon.

The co-Most Outstanding Players in the Top 30 All-Star affair were Tre’ White and Ryan Agarwal, both 6-5 and terrific scorers. Those were my choices, as well.

My choices as the Top 25 performers in the camp (not strictly on “college potential”), listed alphabetically:

Meet Frank

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
