SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Ca. – The eighth-grade brother of a 2019 McDonald’s All-American was among the many standouts during the Jan. 26&27 West Coast Elite Junior All-American Camp at JSerra High.
The camp featured 200-plus athletes from the fifth thru the eighth grades.
Six-foot-four Ky Green (Parkridge Middle School in Peoria, AZ), whose brother, University of Arizona-bound Josh Green was a recent McD’s AA selection as a senior at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, dominated much of the camp via high spectacular jumping as well as his jump shooting and driving.
Among the other 6-3-or-taller eighth-graders who were outstanding when I watched were 6-5 Brady Dunlap and 6-4 Dusty Stromer (Northridge); 6-7 Jordan Bobo and 6-6 Angel Corona (both from Sacramento); 6-5 Zack Davidson (Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate); 6-4 Darnell Fizer and 6-6 Osiris Grady (both Las Vegas); and 6-6 Orlando Greenlow (Santa Monica).
Some of the better eighth-grade guards included A.J. Johnson (PICTURED/Our Lady of Victory in Fresno) and Maurice Wright (Palmdale).
Dunlap (the son of Cal State Northridge assistant coach Jeff Dunlap), Stromer (who could ultimately be a 6-5 or taller “point guard” in high school), Davidson (the brother of Mater Dei sophomore Nick Davidson) and Greenlow (very physical and assertive), Johnson and Wright were standouts at the November WCE middle school event in Burbank
Davidson and Johnson were among those showing exceptional improvement since November.
Davidson could be skilled and strong enough to make a contribution on a veteran-heavy Mater Dei varsity roster in 2019-2020.
Johnson is listed at 5-10 but has the length of legs and arms, and size of feet, of a kid who could end up close to 6-5 someday. He’s a slick handler and passer and a much-improved jump shooter.
