CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A likely head-up matchup between two of the better “shooting guards” in all of high school basketball highlights the opening round of playoff action Saturday morning to start the final day of the NBPA Top 100 Camp.
Hooking up on Court 1 at 10:45 will be the “Rockets” vs. the “Lakers”, with the “Celtics” taking on the “Warriors” at the same time on Court 2 and ninth- and 10th-seeds in the “Spurs” and the “Bucks” playing on Court 3.
The final two first-round games, at 11:45, have the “Heat” vs. the “Knicks” on Court 1 and the “76ers” facing the “Bulls) on Court 2.
The semifinals will be played at 3:30 with the championship scheduled to tip at 6.
The Rockets (5-1) and Lakers (1-5) are led by the top scorers in the camp in Anthony Edwards (Atlanta Holy Spirit Prep) and Scottie Lewis (Tinton Falls, NJ, Ranney).
The 6-foot-4 Edwards (15.0 ppg), who had an overpowering performance during the June 1-3 Pangos All-American Camp in Southern California, should be a consensus Top 10 prospect from the Class of 2020.
And the 6-5 Lewis (14.5 ppg) is going to be in the hunt all the way thru next spring to be the No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2019.
He’s shown why during the first three days of the camp, where he’s been dominant as a scorer (he’s eight of from behind the arc), playmaker and defender.
And no one has been more spectacular here, either. Want proof? Google “Scottie Lewis blocking shots”.
In perhaps the most compelling matchup of the first three days of games and a showdown of 4-0 squads, the Heat edged the 76ers Friday evening, 74-72.
With Isaiah Mobley (Temecula, CA, Rancho Christian), Justin Moore (Hyattsville, MD, DeMatha) and Greg Brown (Austin, TX, Vandegrift) of the 76ers and Precious Achiuwa (Newark St. Benedict’s) and Cade Cunningham (Arlington, TX, Bowie) of the Heat there were probably five of the 10 best players in the camp on the same floor.
Achiuwa finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds while Cunningham had 13 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Mobley, who has used June as a springboard for inclusion on the 2019 McDonald’s All-American team, led the 76ers with 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
