TORRANCE, Ca. – The West Coast Elite End of Summer Camp – held Sunday at El Camino Community College – gave a couple of hundred players a nice opportunity to wrap up their summer hoops fare in grand style.
A hefty portion of the very best players, over all classes, from Southern California – and beyond – turned in nice efforts over the course of two “camp” games and during one of the four all-star games held late Sunday afternoon.
Among the players from the Class of 2018 on display were 6-foot-3 Payton Moore (who committed to Rice last week); 6-4 Alpha Okoli (Bellflower St. John Bosco); 6-5 Brendan Harrick (Anaheim Esperanza); 6-2 Elijah Harkless (Etiwanda); 6-1 Caleb Christopher (Lakewood Mayfair); 6-6 Rip Economou (Santa Monica; he’s committed to Seattle); 6-6 Austin Galuppo (Stevenson Ranch West Ranch); 6-6 Hunter Woods (Pasadena Muir); 6-11 Ezeikiel Richards (Oak Park) and 6-6 Luke Holden (Anaheim Canyon).
Moore and Harrick – one of the most under-recruited players in Southern California in this class – are two of the dozen or so players I thought turned in the most impressive performances Sunday.
Among those in that category from the Class of 2019 were 6-7 Jake Kyman (Santa Margarita); 6-3 Josh Vazquez (Torrance Bishop Montgomery; he’s the most underrated guard in that class throughout the state); 6-8 Cade Potter (Orange Lutheran); 6-0 Jonathan Daniels (Paraclete; he was at Heritage Christian during his first two years of high school); 6-5 Elijah Scranton (Paraclete); and 5-9 Phaquan Davis (Ayala; he was at Chino Hills as a sophomore).
Sophomore (2020) standouts Sunday included 5-11 Lamont Butler (Riverside Poly); 6-2 Ryan Evans (Santa Margarita); 5-11 D.J. Davis (Corona Centennial); and 6-2 Dominick Harris (Newport Beach Pacific Christian).
One of the best sophomores in California, 6-3 Josh Christopher (Lakewood Mayfair), was also on hand but he and his older brother (Caleb) had to depart before the all-star games were played.
It was another impressive evaluation event put on by Ryan Silver and his able West Coast Elite Crew.
