CHICAGO – For the fourth consecutive first December weekend, the Chicago Elite Classic will provide a nice window from which to gaze Illinois – and beyond – high school basketball.
Nine high school games will be played over about 28 hours of Friday and Saturday in the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion.
T hose start with the 6 p.m. (CT) tip to the Friday contest between Oak Park schools River Forest and Fenwick and concluding the 8 o’clock tilt Saturday night between Chicago powers Whitney Young and Simeon.
The building holds approximately 8,500 with daily general admission tickets (priced at $15) available at the door.
The complete schedule:
Friday: 6 p.m., Oak Park River Forest vs. Oak Park Fenwick; 7:30, Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei vs. Chicago Heights Marian Catholic; 9, Park Ridge (IL) Main South vs. Wilmette (IL) Loyola Academy.
Saturday: 1 p.m., Elgin (IL) Larkin vs. East St. Louis (IL); 2:30, Washington, DC Gonzaga Prep vs. Riverside (IL) Brookside; 4, Akron (OH) St. Vincent-St. Mary vs. Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha; 5:30, Chicago Morgan Park vs. Evanston (IL); 7, St. Louis Chaminade vs. Lithonia (GA) Miller Grove; 8:30, Chicago Whitney Young vs. Chicago Simeon.
The most nationally noteworthy seniors participating are Duke-bound forward Jayson Tatum (Chaminade); guard Alterique Gilbert (Miller Grove), who will play for the University of Connecticut; guard Markelle Fultz (DeMatha), who signed with the University of Washington last month; center Michael Cage Jr. (Mater Dei), who is headed to the University of Oregon; University of Memphis-bound guard Charlie Moore (Morgan Park); and future University of Gonzaga jump-shooting specialist Zach Norvell (Simeon).
