LAGUNA NIGUEL, Ca. – Jarred Vanderbilt, a 6-foot-8 left hander capable of playing any position his Houston Victory Prep team needs him, is the BurlisonOnBasketball top sophomore for the 2014-15 season.
Vanderbilt was joined on the five-player first team by four other strong candidates for the No. 1 spot in the Class of 2017 in post DeAndre Ayton (originally from the Bahamas) – considered by many the top prospect in the class – as well as another post, Xavier Tillman, and guards Trae Young and Quade Green.
The 15 players were chosen based upon their on-court accomplishments and not necessarily on how extensively they are being recruited, or will be recruited, for their on-court potential in college. Only players I watched play in person from late September until March were eligible to be selected.
There are several players I’ve seen at other events that don’t fall within that parameter (including point guard Paul Scruggs of Indianapolis, one of the two best prospects at the position in this national class) that are among the very best 2017 prospects I’ve seen.
Players are listed by position with size, city, school and notation for the “national” events I watched them play at:
