LONG BEACH, Ca. – The fifth BallisLife boys’ basketball All-American Game, presented by the U.S. Army, is set for a 5 p.m. (PT) tipoff Saturday at Long Beach City College.
But the action and excitement – for those who love 3-point shooting and dunks of all varieties – begin earlier than that.
The 3-point shooting and dunking contests are set to get underway at 3:15 p.m. and, no doubt, some will find those aspects of the event even more tantalizing than the “game itself.
Nine of the 23 players scheduled to play in the game are based in Southern California: Bennie Boatwright of Sun Valley Village Christian and Chimezie Metu (Lawndale), each of which signed with USC in November; CIF Southern Section Open Division Player of the Year Stephen Thompson Jr. of Torrance Bishop Montgomery (Oregon State); L.A. Times Player of the Year Jeremy Hemsley of La Verne Damien (San Diego State); two-time All-CIF SS selections Tyler Dorsey of Pasadena Maranatha and Kendall Small (Lakewood Mayfair), each of which is bound for the University of Oregon; Chance Comanche (Beverly Hills) and Justin Simon (who is from Temecula but attended Brewster Academy in New Hampshire as a senior), each of which signed with Arizona in November; and BurlisonOnBasketball Southern California Most Outstanding Senior Rex Pflueger of Santa Ana Mater Dei (bound for Notre Dame).
Two McDonald’s All-Americans, Dwayne Bacon (Mouth of Wilson, VA, Oak Hill Academy/he’s going to Florida State) and Isaiah Briscoe (Roselle, NJ, Catholic/he’ll be at Kentucky in the fall), are also set to play in the contest pitting “Team Future” vs. “Team Elite”.
According to BallisLife officials, the game is an official sellout.
But the game will be broadcast live via CBS Sports Television.
