NORWALK, Ca. – Saturday’s third Cavaliers Classic, hosted by Gardena Serra High and held at Cerritos College, wrapped up about the way most would have anticipated:
The Westchester squad showed off why it is expected to add to the program’s tally of L.A. City championships in March.
The Comets were deadlocked (at 38) at intermission with a very young – but gifted – Sacramento Sheldon squad that knocked off Santa Monica the week before during the Top Flight Challenge at Redondo High.
But Coach Ed Azzam’s crew – led by Loyola Marymount-bound Elijah Stewart, who finished with a game-high 23 points – dominated things over the final 16 minutes and cruised to a 77-55 victory.
Action got underway about 12 hours earlier with a game won by Lynwood, 47-45 over La Canada Renaissance Academy, via a layup by 6-foot-7 DeShawn Hill with a second to play.
The outcomes of the other six games played Saturday: San Juan Capistrano Saddleback Valley Christian 100, L.A. Locke 45; Lakewood Mayfair 66, Pasadena Muir 50; Lawndale 68, San Pedro Rolling Hills Prep 60; Gardena Serra 75, Palos Verdes Estates Peninsula 62; Long Beach St. Anthony 49, Las Vegas Clark 41; Montebello Cantwell-Sacred Heart 52, Phoenix Sunnyslope 44; L.A. Westchester 77, Sacramento Sheldon 55.
Stewart was far from the only individual standout, either.
And no one player than did 6-9 junior Chimezie Metu during his Lawndale squad victory over a Rolling Hills Prep that counters with its own big man – 6-10 Jimbo Lull, making his first appearance since injuring his shoulder in the team’s season-opening game against Mayfair on Nov. 25 – as well as a senior guard in Jackie Davis who tallied 26 points.
The Metu has had a habit of failing to tap into his enormously potential by “floating” too much on the perimeter launching deep jumpers and over-handling the ball.
But Saturday he showed off how forceful he is capable of being, in and around the lane and on both sides of the floor, by scoring 26 points and blocking eight shots.
If he continues to take the same approach he should be in the conversation as being one of the 10 or so best power forward-types in the national Class of 2015.
Two guards, senior Kevin Miller (Lynwood) and junior Kendall Small (Mayfair) were, not surprisingly, the individual standouts during the first two games.
Serra’s frontcourt and backcourt balance, and the squad’s depth, simply proved too much for Peninsula, which had a particularly strong effort from one of the more underrated senior posts in Southern California is 6-7 Stanley Roberts Jr. (23 points and nine rebounds).
Six-seven Tavrion Dawson (who signed with Cal State Northridge in November) scored 23 for Serra while 6-1 junior point guard Jason Richardson (whose dad, played at Verbum Dei and Northwestern), added 19 points – 14 of those after intermission.
A player who is having a sensational senior season – without getting a lot of media or recruiters’ attention – was terrific again Saturday for Cantwell-Sacred Heart.
Six-three Joey Covarrubias scored 22 points to help his team hold off Sunnyslope (which has a 6-9, Stanford-bound senior in Michael Humphrey and was 16-1 going into the contest), one of the better teams in Arizona.
” The origin and meaning is under dispute, but a reference can be traced back to one of the original Psalms in the bible. I have seen many spied on there in terms of what they are studying and what they are ‘encouraged’ to do there. Holding a $100 bill focus and saying, “the energy moves through me knowing I am an abundant being,” for example is very liberating while making love.

Howdy this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with
HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding knowledge
so I wanted to get advice from someone with experience.
Any help would be enormously appreciated!
