LOS ANGELES – The sixth Fairfax High State Preview – now called the James Samson State Preview, in honor of the late long-time member of the Fairfax Family – tips off Saturday morning at 9:30.
Eight games are scheduled, beginning with the Pasadena Maranatha vs. San Pedro Rolling Hills clash, and wrapping up when L.A. Loyola and Woodland Hills El Camino Real hook up at 8:15 p.m.
Seven of the teams in the field, including Loyola, were among the 25 CIF Southern Section “Open Division” candidates posted by the section this week.
Eight players in the event signed national letters of intent with NCAA Division I-affiliated programs in November, including UCLA-bound center Thomas Welsh and future University of Arizona point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright (both for Loyola).
Samson, who served many roles with the Fairfax athletic programs during his nearly 30-year affiliation with the school, died last February at 62 during heart surgery.
Admission to the event is $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.
For adults, that means the cost is $1.25 – the ultimate in hoops bargains, to say the least, considering the caliber of teams and players that will be on display for roughly 12 hours Saturday.
