BEVERLY HILLS, Ca. – Some of the better high school hoops players from across Southern California gathered at Beverly Hills High Saturday morning.
The occasion was “Double Pump Media Day”, an opportunity for the players directly or indirectly part of the teams overseen by David and Dana Pumps to scrimmage and run through drills in front of 10 or so reporters from Internet sites or newspapers – and then to learn a little about how the soundest ways of dealing with “media” members.
They were also offered insight about the caution that must be used in interacting in “social media” outlets, most notably Twitter.
The players in attendance included:
*Pump-N-Run Elite representatives included 6-foot-9 Evan Fitzner (San Diego Parker), 6-0 Kyron Cartwright (Compton), 5-10 Maleke Haynes (Woodland Hills El Camino Real), 6-7 Sam Jones (Gilbert, AZ, Christian) and 6-7 Devenir Duruisseau (Sylmar).
*The Double Pump Elite 16-Under squad features one of the most noteworthy freshmen in the west – and, in reality, beyond – and 6-9 Trevor Stanback (West Hills Chaminade) gave those watching him, and playing against him, a couple of hours’ worth of reasons why Saturday.
*Among those from Pump-N-Run Power participating were 5-11 Kelton Conway and 6-9 Blair Orr (both from El Camino Real) and 6-8 Terrell Carter (West Torrance).
*And, from the Aim High program, a couple of the most improved players in Southern California (from December until now) in attendance were 6-1 K.J. Smith (Westlake Village Oaks Christian) and 6-5 Evan Wardlow (El Camino Real).
