SANTA ANA, Ca. – The 18th Nike Extravaganza, likely the best two-day high school regular-season event in the U.S. of A., is on tap for Friday and Saturday in Mater Dei High’s state-of-the-art Meruelo Athletic Center.
Fifteen games, three of those girls’ tilts, will be on display.
Action begins with the 2:30 p.m. Friday game between the girls’ squads from Rialto and Orange Lutheran, and is a wrap following the conclusion of the 9 o’clock game Saturday night between the boys’ teams from Santa Ana Mater Dei and Los Angeles Westchester.
Mater Dei has the top-ranked girls club in the country while its boys’ counterpart, led by junior Stanley Johnson and senior Elijah Brown (who recently committed to Butler), is ranked No. 1 in California.
Saturday’s action will include many of the very best teams in Southern California, including CIF Southern Section IAA standouts Mater Dei, Long Beach Poly, Etiwanda and L.A. Loyola
Three non-Southern California teams, Durango and Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas and De La Salle of Concord (in Northern California) are participating.
Tickets for Friday’s games are $12 (open seating). The Saturday morning session games (three of them) are $12, with evening session (six games) at $12 for open and $22 for reserved.
