SANTA MONICA, Ca. – The “competitive game” percentage was a paltry .250.

The host Vikings jumped out to a 30-4 advantage before easing past Oaks Christian, 63-49, in the final game of the evening.
Loyola – which captured the Torrance Tournament last weekend and is led by dynamic point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright – wasn’t threatened in the opener while coasting over Cleveland, 61-39.
Brentwood had few issues in dealing with Providence, 66-44, in the second game.
Providence was without standout sophomore guard Marcus Lovett, reportedly home ill.
There was finally some (relative) suspense in the third game, during which Palisades jumped out to an 11-0 advantage before Crenshaw stabilized things and went on for a 56-49 victory.
That victory puts the Cougars into a Wednesday night (8 o’clock) championship quarterfinal against Santa Monica, with Brentwood and Loyola hooking up in the other at 6:30.
Providence and Cleveland (3:30) and Oaks Christian and Palisades (5) play in consolation quarterfinals earlier Wednesday.
What’s is going to make the Brentwood-Loyola quarter especially compelling is Brentwood Coach Ryan Bailey’s connection to Loyola – it is his alma mater, and Bailey also spend several seasons as an assistant to Jamal Adams with the Cubs.
Brentwood has one of the best post players in Southern California in 6-foot-6 senior Leland King, and a gifted set of junior guards in Tra Holder and Austin Lee.
Jackson-Cartwright definitely ignites the Cubs at both ends of the floor but there is plenty to go around him, much-improved junior center Thomas Welsh, senior jump shooting specialists Trey Mason and speedy sophomore guard Max Hazzard.
California (Berkeley)-bound Jordan Mathews led the way for Santa Monica Monday night, mostly in transition via sweeping layups and crisp, on-target passing.
The other half of the first round, to be played Tuesday, gets underway at 3:30 with West Ranch vs. Palmdale; 5, Culver City vs. Alemany; 6:30, El Camino Real vs. L.A. Fremont; 6:30, Sylmar vs. Chaminade at 5.
