PALM SPRINGS, Ca. – The MaxPreps Holiday Classic gets underway Wednesday with the Invitational Division the headliner from among the 10 boys’ varsity divisions from which teams will be competing for titles over the next four days.

Foremost among the nationally known elements in the Invitational Division field are Richmond (TX) Fort Bend Travis, led by Kentucky-bound twins Andrew and Aaron Harrison, and Los Angeles Loyola, which is off to an 8-0 start behind the play of junior point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright.

First-round games Wednesday will be played at three sites: Cathedral City High, Palm Desert High and College of the Desert (a community college).

All of the games in the semifinal and final rounds (Friday and Saturday) will be played at Palm Desert High.

Some of the other divisions include the Gear to the Max (with Southland squads Lake Forest El Toro and Riverside JW North) and Qwixscore (Southland teams Mission Viejo and Rancho Cucamonga meet at 11 a.m., Friday at College of the Desert, in the best matchup in that division).

Telling your ex that you still inlove with him or her will work in this
case. I left after a year to finish my degree in piano,
and theen I did another five years with them.
The risks are clearly explained as well as the outcome of trades.

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
