All-West Camp observations

LONG BEACH, CA – The brief (two-day) Fullcourt Press All-West Camp (presented by Pangos) was capped by three all-star games Thursday night at Cabrillo High – shockingly, even as rain fell in Sunny Southern California!

Nothing quite as startlingly as July rain took place on the floor but the 30-plus college coaches and various recruiting analysts –including yours truly, Joel Francisco (ESPN.com), Josh Gershon and Greg Hicks (Scout.com) and Chad Groth (Area Codes Basketball)  – in attendance got a look at some solid prospects, both well-known and others getting their first large-scale exposure.

Here are some of the players that impressed me, beginning with the Top 75 contest . . .

*Will Newman (6-foot/2013/Lawndale, CA) He was outstanding during the tournament hosted by Bellflower St. John Bosco High a couple of weeks ago and he was just as impressive Thursday night, getting the ball to open shooters and knocking in jumpers – and floaters – himself.

*Stephen Thompson (6-1/2015/Torrance, CA, Bishop Montgomery): The oldest son of Cal State Los Angeles head coach (and former Crenshaw High and Syracuse standout) Stevie Thompson is a terrific prospect – with a much better jump shot (smile) than pop probably has even today!

*Jordan Griffin (6-2/2016/Corona, CA, Centennial): He’s going to be a major impact freshman for the Huskies of Coach Josh Gilles and he showed why Thursday night. If he picked up three inches or so before too long, what he will be doing to defenders will be almost unfair.

*George Johnson (5-9/2013/Brentwood, CA, Heritage): He was both quick and slick – a pretty good combination for a point guard at that size. He also played on-balance – another nifty thing that impresses college recruiters.

And the Top 50 game . . .

*Daryl Robertson (6-0/2013/Boise, ID, Centennial): Meet the newest solid point guard in the Class of 2013 to enter my universe – he is strong, solid with the ball and penetrates under control. He also knocked in a couple of jumpers (including a 3), to boot.

*Nick Velasquez (6-1/2013/Honolulu, HI, Punahou): He made quite an immediate impact as a “catch and shoot it”-type, knocking in three 3s in the first half.

*Jacob Bigler (6-1/2014/South Weber, UT, Northridge): Shot just as well – and from as deep – as did Velasquez but seemed as if he is a bit better off the dribble.

*Kahlil Simplis (6-0/2015/North Hollywood, CA, Campbell Hall): He doesn’t yet have the national (or even reputation) of many of the other rising sophomore point guards in the West – but that is about to change. He’s very good and plays the position the way it’s supposed to be played.

*Jonathan Ross (6-7/2015/Long Beach, CA, St. Anthony): He’s a transfer from Orange Lutheran who will have a major impact on his new program – the alma mater of long-time NBA point guard Darrick Martin – under new Coach Eric Cooper.

*Devinir Derousseau (6-7/2014/Sylmar, CA): He started the contest with a jump hook and was aggressive – and effective, at both end of the floor – the rest of the way.

And, finally – the Top 25 tilt . . .

*Kaleahl Ferguson (5-9/2013/Long Beach, CA, Jordan): The left hander is one of the quickest players in Southern California. The proof was in his on-court performance Thursday night.

*Trevor Dunbar (5-8/2014/San Francisco, CA, St. Ignatius): He is one of the better junior-to-be point guards from Northern California. He made solid decisions Thursday night.

*Malcolm and Marcus Allen (6-1/2013/Las Vegas, NV, Centennial): Here is the best way I can differentiate the twins (who are both exceptional students, FYI) – Malcolm is more the “jump shooter” of the duo while Marcus is more the “point guard”. Correct me if I’m wrong, guys.

*Kris Yanku (6-3/2013/Woodland Hills, CA, Taft): If an early favorite for the 2013 L.A. City Player of the Year honor needs to be designated now, he’s the guy.

*EJ Floreal (6-5/2013/Palo Alto, CA): He’s the teammate of Aubrey Dawkins and another reason why they’ll be playing for one of the best teams in Northern California next season. No one played harder or more effectively in the game.

*Tyler Dorsey (6-4/2015/Henderson, NV, Findlay Prep): Apparently his next stop (he played his freshman season for Ribet Academy in Los Angeles) is Nevada. He picked up co-MVP honors Thursday night (with the aforementioned Floreal).

*Jordan Bell (6-7/2013/Long Beach, CA, Poly): No one in Southern California rebounds, dunks or blocks shots more impressively than this guy, who is a key member for a team that is likely to go into next season top-ranked in California. Now, if he could just add some solid post moves and a jump shot to the repertoire.

*Daniel Young (6-8/2013/Las Vegas, NV, Valley): The left hander blocked some shots, ran well and finished in traffic. Add him to your list of the best posts in the senior-to-be class.

*Jacob Hammond (6-10/2014/Oklahoma City, OK, Oklahoma Sky): He hit some jump shots, rebounded fairly well in crowds and caught every pass thrown to him. He’ll be recruited on a national scale.

To check if the flush valve is the cause of
the leak, simply shut off the water supply to the toilet.
Perhaps each toilet flush is becoming a little slower, or the
tub isn’t draining after a shower, or an ominous noise is emanating from the sink.

This can be an especially difficult task if you have oily skin.

This way, you can compare companies side by side without incurring any extra risk.
You are the only one will be hurt by this, so
there is no reason not to be honest. As you’ll find

Before marriage, search carefully for compatibility. ” In little time at all, the completed washing was spinning away drying in the only dryer, I was standing under a well eared hot shower giving myself a good rubdown. Toilet paper is among the most essential product because you are always going to need it and you use it all the time.

The combined elimination of emotional trauma and the nutritional support is an incredibly powerful package that promotes health and
well being faster than any other method currently available for treating arthritis.
Perhaps each toilet flush is becoming a little slower, or the tub isn’t draining after a shower, or an ominous noise is emanating from the sink.
Your time is valuable, so it doesn’t make much sense to spend all of it dealing with a plumbing
    problem.

So, if you are really looking forward to get rid of all your skin problems in a natural way, get all solutions on. Vitamin E is particularly beneficial,
promoting healing, good blood circulation, and fortified capillary walls.

It becomes difficult to treat these scars and therefore acne must
be treated with the help of oral drugs and topical creams and lotions.

Frank Burlison

Frank Burlison is a well-regarded basketball writer who was inducted into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2005. His opinions on the potential of high school and college players are widely respected and sought by college coaches and NBA scouts, personnel directors and general managers from coast to coast. Oh, yes – he can offer plenty of thoughts on movies, television and pop music. Yes, he can rank those, too. Hint: He’s a big The Godfather, Larry Sanders, The Wire and The Beatles loyalist.

I’ve known Frank for at least 35 years and have the utmost respect for his writing as well as his understanding of, and insight into, basketball. His ability to evaluate basketball prospects is almost impeccable. Most coaches and scouts watch a player and can tell you how good he is NOW. What separates Frank from the others is that he can watch the same player and tell you how good he can be two or three years down the line.
