VARIOUS LOCALES, Southern California – The final day of June offers a lot of high school hoops-viewing options in the sunny Southland for the hard-core among the prep followers.
Three terrific tournaments wrap up this evening with championship games:
*Los Angeles Price takes on Lawndale Leuzinger at 6 p.m. in the Compton Dominguez finale.
Price is led by 6-foot-2 guard Chance Murray while Leuzinger also has a gifted backcourt, led by another senior-to-be in Eric Childress.
*Long Beach Poly and Pasadena tip off in the title game at L.A. Fairfax at 6 o’clock as well.
The Jackrabbits have two of the best seniors-to-be in the West in 6-5 Roschon Prince and 6-7 Jordan Bell, the latter who probably blocked 10 shots in the 69-63 semifinal victory over Woodland Hills El Camino Real Friday night.
Poly also has one of the best 2014 prospects in the West in 6-7 Kameron Chatman, a transfer from Portland Jefferson. The left hander has marvelous ball-handling and passing skills.
Pasadena may have the best perimeter attack in Southern California via guards Ajon Efferson, Andre Spight (a dynamic transfer from Burbank High) and Jeff McClendon.
*And, finally, L.A. Westchester and Torrance Bishop Montgomery hook up in the 7:30 final at Westchester High.
The squads rolled through the first three rounds earlier this week and each returns a significant number of key players from last season, including forwards Nick Reese of the host Comets and Lamond Murray of Bishop Montgomery.
Third-place games are: Compton vs. La Verne Lutheran (4:30/Dominguez); El Camino Real vs. N. Hollywood Harvard-Westlake (4:30/Fairfax); and Santa Ana Mater Dei vs. Sylmar (6/Westchester).
