By JAMES KERTI
I had the opportunity to attend the Pangos Spring Spectacular and the adidas VIP Exclusive Run in Las Vegas over the weekend of April 20-22 as well as the Real Deal in the Rock tournament in Little Rock from April 27-29.
While the following players aren’t necessarily the best prospects in the events, they are among those who stood out the most for me.
* Kasey Hill (6-1/Florida Rams/Montverde Academy/ FL/2013)
James Says: He’s the best point guard prospect that I’ve seen in his class. He’s exceptionally quick and adept at getting to the rim. He has the athleticism and strength to finish his drives in traffic.
* Brannen Greene (6-6/Florida Rams/Mary Persons/ FL/2013)
James Says: He possesses an outstanding skill set from the wing. He shoots well from beyond the arc. He has a good enough handle to take defenders off the dribble and pull up for a mid-range jumper. He runs the floor well. He will score for Kansas.
* Hyron Edwards (6-0/Indiana Elite-Team Indiana/East Chicago Central/IN/2015)
James Says: He demonstrated superb point guard play and was impossible to guard. I’ve seen some great point guard prospects in this class. Edwards is certainly among the best.
* Isaac Copeland (6-10/Garner Elite/Ravenscroft/NC/2013)
James Says: The cornerman moves well and has a good jump shot with a quick release.
* Isaac Hamilton (6-4/Dream Vision 17U/St. John Bosco/CA/2013)
James Says: He has more weapons in his scoring arsenal than any player I’ve seen at the prep level this year. He also passes well and works hard on the boards.
* Stephen Zimmerman (6-11/Dream Vision 17U/Bishop Gorman/NV/2015)
James Says: He moved up to the Dream Vision 17U team in Little Rock and showed he belongs at that level. He has an incredible skill set, especially with his strong passing to start fast breaks.
* Zena Edosomwan (6-8/Belmont Shore/Harvard Westlake/CA/2012)
James Says: The Harvard verbal plays with a ton of aggressiveness. He rips down rebounds and attacks the basket for dunks when he gets the ball in his hands.
* Christian Wood (6-10/Las Vegas Prospects 17’s/Findlay Prep/NV/2013)
James Says: He has excellent range on his outside shot. His height and shooting ability cause matchup problems for opponents.
* Brandon Austin (6-6/Team Philly/Imhotep Charter/PA/2013)
James Says: He’s a skilled wing with point forward potential. His athleticism and ball-handling make him a serious threat to score from the wing, too.
* Jordan Mickey (6-7/Urban DFW Elite/Grace Prep/TX/2013)
James Says: He has a soft touch around the rim and finishes well with either hand. He’s a threat to finish fast breaks, too.
* Karviar Shepherd (6-9/Urban DFW Elite/Grace Prep/TX/2013)
James Says: He’s a very strong, aggressive rebounder who really gets after the ball. His developing face-up game makes him a threat out to the high post.
* Junior Etou (6-7/DC Assault/Bishop O’Connell/VA/2013)
James Says: Serga Ibaka’s cousin runs very well and showed his toughness on the boards. Though he’s still new to the game, he has a strong body and works hard.
* Stephen Domingo (6-7/Dream Vision 17U/St. Ignatius/CA/2013)
James Says: He has good range on a jump shot that is extremely difficult to block.
*Deangelo Allen (6-6/Dallas Showtyme Elite/Kimball/TX/2014)
James Says: He’s a very good athlete who passes and rebounds well. He’s a serious threat in transition. He also has a reliable three-point shot.
* Christopher Obekpa (6-8/New Heights NYC/Our Savior New American/NY/2012)
James Says: The unsigned senior is a standout shot-blocker whose blocked shot total pales in comparison to the number of shots he alters in the paint.
* Nate Britt (6-1/DC Assault/Gonzaga/MD/2013)
James Says: The crafty southpaw is an outstanding floor general and led his DC Assault team to the title in their division in Little Rock.
